Catfish Pepper Soup

Catfish is known to be a special fish species cooked in different homes, bar hotels and restaurants. It is mostly enjoyed with cooked yam, bread, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, etc. Catfish is very cheap and affordable to cook based on choice and pocket. You can easily get the fresh catfish in local markets and stores around you.

It is called a fresh fish because it is freshly killed by the seller and it looks almost like cat with the whisker-like projections on its flattened big head. It is locally called Ejaaro in the Yoruba land and it can be cooked with different spices like Maggi, curry, scent leaf, locust beans, onions, garlic and ginger powder and salt to taste.

PREPARATION

Catfish is a tasty fish cooked with a lot of juice. The juice is the most important part of the catfish pepper soup which is  the most common cooking method. It can also be processed by deep-frying, grilled, baked and pan-fried with great success. It can also be smoked till dry and used in a lot of African soups.

Catfish has a mild, sweet flavor and is less flaky and denser than other whitefish, allowing for a variety of cooking choices. The fillet marinated in brine can also be enjoyed raw.

HOW TO COOK CATFISH  PEPPER SOUP

Wash and clean the cat fish properly to avoid the blood spill.

Boil enough water quantity to wash to remove the wax (proteins) during the cooking process.

Sieve the water out immediately and wash it with cold water after the removal of excess protein.

Pour your fresh pepper in the pot and add all necessary ingredients of choice.

Boil the pepper and ingredients for 5 minutes and add your cat fish.

Add enough water to it according to how much water in need in the soup for juice.

Check the taste and add your salt to taste if necessary.

Leave it and cook it for not less than 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes your catfish is ready.

Drop it and leave it to simmer for 2 minutes and is ready.
